A/AS Level Physical Education

Course Information

The course is split into two separate sections. In the first year students study three theoretical and two practical activities to gain an AS level in physical education. In year two, students continue to study three more theoretical components in a little more depth and continue with two practical activities to gain an A-level award.

In year one, external examinations take place in June and account for 70% of the marks with the practical coursework making up the other 30%.

In year two, the June exam covers the theoretical part of the course and is worth 70% of the total mark. The exam includes a synoptic question which links all the separate components to really test candidates depth of knowledge. Practical coursework is again internally assessed and moderated by the exam board for the final 30% of marks.
