The Department

The department is one of three very successful Social Sciences. In 1999 psychology achieved the highest departmental value added indicator in the college, given the number of students taught.

From September there will be seven psychology teachers operating from a purpose built Social Science Resource area.

Student contact time is 4.5 plus 5 hours of directed study time. We have lessons with our students on 4 days out of 5.

All teachers teach four examination groups of approximately 80 students, except personal tutors who teach two examination groups and spend the other two blocks on pastoral work.

Psychology staff are fully accessible to students outside of lesson times in the resource base. Students are encouraged to ask any member of staff for help if their teacher is not available.

All learning materials are produced in-house, and staff share resources, and good practice.

The department has a strong commitment to continually improving the quality of teaching and learning.
