The College Day

Attendance and Registration

• Lessons start at 8:45am and end at 3:55pm
• You are registered in each timetabled session
• You must attend all timetabled sessions but need not be in college at other times
• You must be available to meet with staff at their request outside lesson times
• You should not take on any employment, arrange holidays and/or avoidable appointments during the college day

Reporting Absence

• If you know you will be absent from a lesson, you should notify your teacher in advance
• In the case of illness you should call the absence line on the first day of absence, tel. no. 01484 435687, where you can leave a message with your:
  • name
  • tutor group
  • student number
  • reasons for absence
  • expected date of return
• All absences must be reported by 11.30am
• EMA Students also need to complete a Notification of Absence Form that is available from Reception or the Student Registration Office before absence takes place. Failure to do so will result in non-payment for that particular week.

Your timetable

• For each subject you will have three 70 minute periods from Monday to Thursday and one 60 minute period on Friday
• Wednesday afternoons are free of timetabled lessons for the enrichment programme
• Each subject will be in the same block on the timetable
• For example you may have Geography in E-Block
• This would be:
  • Monday, period 2
  • Tuesday, period 3
  • Thursday, period 5
  • Friday, period 6

Your first year timetable will typically include:

• 4 AS level subjects
• 1 tutorial period
• 1or more enrichment sessions

Your second year timetable will typically include:

• 3 or 4 A level subjects
• 1 tutorial period to include General Studies lessons
• 1 or more enrichment sessions
• 1additional AS subject, if you wish

Example A:
Jane studies Chemistry (Salters syllabus), Maths with statistics, Biology and French. In addition to the lessons shown she will have a tutorial once a week and enrichment activities which generally take up two more periods.
