Greenhead College Geography Students Explore Urban Regeneration at Mayfield, Manchester
27 October 2026Geography students recently visited Mayfield, Manchester, where they gained a fascinating insight into one of the city’s most exciting regeneration projects.
As part of the visit, students had the opportunity to meet Jim Gibson from Gillespies, who shared his experience of working as a landscape architect and the important role landscape architecture plays in shaping successful urban environments.
Through his engaging talk, students learned about the transformation of Mayfield, the impact of regeneration on local communities, and the wide range of career opportunities within the profession.
Jim also spoke about his own career journey, offering valuable advice and helping students understand what a career in landscape architecture involves.
The visit provided students with a real-world perspective on topics studied in the classroom and helped bring their learning to life.
We would like to thank Jim for generously giving his time and expertise, and extend our thanks to Gillespies and the Landscape Institute for helping to inspire the next generation of geographers.
