Leadership and Management
We create and promote a whole College approach to mental health and well-being.
Leaders at all levels within the College, act as positive role models from a well-being perspective. The College’s purpose ‘Be exceptional’ is underpinned by four key principles:
- Every person matters.
- Create a safe space to grow and flourish.
- Be the best you can be.
- Pursue excellence.
These principles are embedded into all College activities and processes, ensuring that staff and students are at the forefront of our mental health and well-being framework.
Greenhead is one of the best Sixth Form Colleges in the country, and we are proud of our reputation and value our ethos of placing students at the centre of everything we do. Our expectations of students are high, but they receive the very best in academic and pastoral support during their time as part of the Greenhead community.
The College aims to ensure all students complete their course successfully and develop into well- rounded and confident young people with a life-long passion for learning. We also help them to foster an interest in the wider world and the welfare of others. The College has a warm and purposeful atmosphere stemming from the excellent working relationships that exist between staff and students.
The College focuses on developing its staff to be the best that they can be through a cohesive staff development programme which is personalised to meet individual needs. This affords staff additional opportunities to enhance their skills, whilst ensuring that they achieve a healthy work/life balance.
The College also supports it staff through the Kirklees Health Care Plan, to develop their mental and physical well-being. Staff have access to wide range of support services, including free courses that focus on them as an individual, such as physio and counselling.
The primary role of all leaders and managers at the College is to support their team members in a supportive and inclusive environment.
Our Mental Health Lead works closely with external services, the Senior Leadership Team, and staff across the College. They also work with the GCSA (Greenhead College Student Association), whose feedback informs decision-making at a senior level. This role ensures all elements of the whole College approach are pulling in the same direction to create and implement a vision to promote an ethos of well-being across the organisation.
We have a Link Governor appointed with a mental health and well-being focus. This governance role supports the SLT as a ‘critical friend’ and champions mental health of both students and staff.
This group meets at least once every half term and includes representation from the SLT along with a diverse mix of staff from across the College who have an interest in being involved. The aim of the group is to drive forward the development of a whole College approach to mental and physical well-being.
