Here at Greenhead College, the Careers Department works in partnership with C+K Careers to offer one-to-one guidance appointments with experienced, professionally qualified careers advisers.

Students have access to a wide range of careers activities, including weekly pop-up careers events, mock interviews, CV and personal statement workshops, apprenticeship events, and guest talks. These opportunities are designed to help students build confidence in their career planning, explore their future options, and develop the skills and knowledge needed to achieve their goals.

Careers Library

Located within The Hub, the Careers Library is open to students Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:00pm, and provides access to a wide range of careers and progression resources, including:

Careers literature and guides
Careers magazines
Further Education (FE) and Higher Education (HE) prospectuses
University and degree course guides
Information on job opportunities, including part-time work
Opportunities to study or work abroad
Student finance information
Personal support information, including health and housing advice

Students are welcome to use the Careers Library throughout the day to research their options and access impartial careers information and guidance.

Careers Appointment

Booking a careers appointment is quick and easy. Simply click the ‘Book a Careers Appointment’ button on Moodle, choose a time that fits around your timetable, and complete the booking form with your details.

Careers appointments last 30 minutes, and students can book as many appointments as they need throughout their time at College. Appointments can be delivered face-to-face, via Microsoft Teams, or by telephone.

Post-18 Opportunities

As part of our commitment to the Provider Access requirements set out in the statutory guidance, we ensure that all students have access to information about the full range of post-18 opportunities available to them. This includes Higher Education, Further Education, apprenticeships, technical qualifications, employment and training opportunities.

To support this, we work closely with a wide range of local and national employers, universities, colleges, apprenticeship providers and training organisations. Throughout the year, students have opportunities to engage with these providers through careers events, employer talks, mock interviews, employability workshops, enterprise activities and work-shadowing opportunities.

Our extensive employer network includes more than 1,500 organisations offering work-shadowing experiences, alongside hundreds of additional employers and training providers who contribute to the College’s careers programme. These partnerships help students explore their options, develop workplace skills and make informed decisions about their future.

Applications for Higher Education, Employment and Apprenticeships

Students are given guidance on a range of application methods, including writing a CV, preparing a letter of application, completing application forms for jobs, higher apprenticeships, and further or higher education courses, as well as developing interview skills. All students have the opportunity to take part in a mock interview.

For those wishing to defer entry to higher education, information is available on both paid and voluntary opportunities during the gap between completing A Levels and starting university.

If you are unsure about your next steps, we recommend speaking with your Tutors in the first instance. If you need further guidance, you can book an appointment with a member of the Careers Department.

Greenhead is fully committed to providing first-class Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG), as set out in the Government's Careers Strategy (2017) and the Statutory Guidance for Further Education Colleges and Sixth Form Colleges (January 2023) referred to in our CEIAG Policy. We also hold the National Quality Standards Award (July 2022), which was assessed against the Gatsby Benchmarks.
