Mental and Physical Framework (M+P)
The Mental and Physical Framework encompasses all the well-being strands across college under one framework. This enables the college to address well-being collectively, creating a positive culture of mental and physical health which benefits the whole college community. Mental and Physical (M+P) weeks are held throughout the academic year, where there is an opportunity for both staff and students to access a variety of activities, information sessions and resources on wellbeing.
How does M+P Week fit into the framework
M+P weeks
- Highlight to students the importance placed upon well-being by the college and this extends to all aspects of college life,
- Explore with students the relationship between wellbeing and academic outcomes,
- Open a channel of communication between staff and students and allow a process of reflection on teaching/ learning and the learner journey
- Highlight to staff the importance placed upon their wellbeing by the senior leadership team, and to provide them with support to help them in all aspects of their role at the College
How does M+P Week benefit the college community?
Mental and Physical (M+P) weeks are held throughout the academic year, where there is an opportunity for both staff and students to access a variety of activities, information sessions and resources dedicated to well-being both in and outside of lessons. Bringing students and staff together across college.
Mental and Physical Week Activities (6 - 10 March 2023)
No student activities scheduled due to Inset Day.
Sleep workshop, lunchtime in D8 - We'll be exploring the science of sleep and discussing a range of strategies to help you get more of it!
Walk Around Greenhead Park. Meet at PE Office, lunchtime for a relaxing stroll around Greenhead Park.
Motivation Masterclass, lunchtime in C3 - A motivational seminar & interactive training workshop for students which could help them learn how to find and foster healthy, meaningful connections and improve their motivation. Workshop participants learn to overcome their lack of motivation and stress-symptoms and also improve their self and time management. Refreshments will be provided.
Crochet Corner (C6 anytime) - Come along to crochet corner take some time out of your busy week. Crocheting allows us to slow down and focus on that stitch we are making or that pattern we are working on. The challenge it provides and the positive associations we have with our craft is an instant mood booster. Just thinking about something you want to crochet, or even just seeing yarn, can lift up your spirits! Please note there will be no tuition and you need to provide your own resources.
Therapy Dogs - (booking essential via the Therapy Dogs page on Moodle). Come along and spend some time with our very own Therapy Dogs! Booking will be available on Moodle shortly.
Colourful Polymers - Chemistry Department (S9) at lunchtime. Explore the world of polymers through molymod models and at the end of the week we will make a polymer.
Physics - A Bottle Orchestra - using waves to make music. R7, lunchtime. We will tune 'bottles' and other physics paraphernalia to play particular harmonics and then hopefully play something that's vaguely musical on Friday lunch to celebrate M+P week.
Library activities:
- A 1000 piece jigsaw for students to add 1 or more pieces, see if we can finish it in a week!
- Colouring sheets and bookmarks to colour and make.
- Beanbags in the book stacks for chilling
Introduction to couch to 5K, Meet outside the fitness room at 12.45pm - running to take place in Greenhead Park - Providing students and staff with a introduction on what it takes to go from couch to 5k. This will involve a mixture of walking and short bursts of running.
Screening of William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. Drama Studio at 1pm. It was recorded through National Theatre Live April, 2017 with Tasmin Greig as a transformed Malvolia, in a new twist on Shakespeare’s classic comedy of mistaken identity. I recommend you come and see it.

Roller Dance - Lunchtime in the Sports Hall. Do you want to roll and dance? Then this skating session is for you. Come down to our roller disco, practice or learn new skills and improve your well being at the same time. All levels are welcome. Booking essential, max 10 people. The Base stall in the Main Hall, Lunchtime. The Base offer non judgemental information and support around drugs and alcohol to young people in Kirklees. They encourage students to chat about anything on their minds and offer the latest research driven evidence. It is possible to ask to talk in private if you wish to discuss something confidentially. The organisation offers support to those struggling with addiction, their friends, family and supporters and those just wanting information to make informed choices.
