Greenhead College shortlisted for FE College Achievement Award

Greenhead College have been shortlisted for the FE College Achievement Award with their recent Carol for Yorkshire Project. The National Awards are run by the Creative Learning Guild, and the winner will be announced on Friday 8th March 2019.

Carol for Yorkshire was a recent project run by Greenhead Colleges Music Department in partnership with Musica Kirklees, where students from across the district were invited to enter a competition to compose their very own Christmas Carol.

Greenhead College student Louis Enright won the competition with his fantastic composition of ‘What Would Jesus Say’, which was recorded by the Greenhead College Choir and 3 local primary schools; Mount Pleasant Primary, Spring Grove Primary and Reinwood Junior School.

The carol was released on Monday 3rd December 2018 to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

It was a huge success as the YouTube video was viewed over 6000 times, it was played on various local radio stations including Pulse 2 and BBC Radio Leeds and was downloaded hundreds of times across Amazon Music, ITunes and Spotify. It even reached number 4 in Amazon’s hot new releases chart! But most importantly, the project raised £706.80 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Congratulations to everybody involved for all the hard work and effort you put into this project, particularly Louis Enright for his fantastic composition and the Greenhead College Music Department for bringing it to life. Fingers crossed for the win!
