Greenhead College Students Excel in Royal Society of Chemistry Schools’ Analyst Competition

Designed to challenge and inspire, the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Schools’ Analyst Competition gave A1 Chemistry students the opportunity to step into the role of professional analytical chemists.

Working in teams, 60 Chemistry students tackled a series of practical tasks that demanded skill, precision, and problem-solving. This year’s competition featured three analytical challenges: a back titration to determine the caffeine content of a coffee sample, analysis of the fat and oil content in different hand creams, and the identification and comparison of lipstick samples.

Using official Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) competition kits in our laboratories, students embraced the challenge with enthusiasm and determination, demonstrating excellent practical skills, scientific knowledge, and teamwork throughout.

The top three teams were:

• Third Place – Sirat, Daniel and Fletcher
• Second Place – Fateh, Sahanshila and Ainnie
• First Place – Gabriella, Vatsin, Aysha and Massa

All teams were awarded certificates, and the first-place team were presented with a £50 Amazon voucher in recognition of their outstanding achievements.

We are especially proud to announce that the first-place team achieved the highest score of any school or college in the North East region, earning the prestigious title of Regional Champions.
