Greenhead College Welcomes New Chair of Governors

Greenhead College is delighted to welcome James Wilkinson as our new Chair of Governors as Richard Armstrong steps down from the role.

For the past nine years, Richard Armstrong has served as both a Governor and, for the last eight years, Chair of Governors, providing dedicated leadership and unwavering support to the College community. As he stepped down from the role, Richard reflected on his time at Greenhead and expressed his gratitude to staff across the College.

Richard said:

“I just wanted to offer my thanks and express my appreciation to you all for your continued dedication, hard work and real contribution to students of the College.”

Richard’s connection to Greenhead is also a personal one. His daughter chose to study at the College before progressing to the University of Cambridge, and he recalls the support she received throughout her time here. Her experience reflects the views of many students and families who are part of the Greenhead community.

He added:

“I have always been very impressed and thankful that the College has been able to recruit, retain and facilitate such a strong and able body of people who remain motivated year after year to the students who choose to study at the College; ensuring they can not only achieve their best but to thrive and hopefully enjoy and remember their time at the College.”

While we say farewell to Richard as Chair and thank him for his outstanding service, we are equally excited to welcome James Wilkinson to the role.

James is Director of Finance at Cafédirect, a pioneering social enterprise that works directly with coffee-growing communities around the world.

Earlier this year, James delivered an insightful talk to students studying Economics and Business, sharing his professional experience and providing valuable real-world perspectives. His enthusiasm, knowledge and engaging delivery made a lasting impression on students and staff alike.

James said:

“As a Greenhead alumnus I will always remember, and be grateful for, the opportunities the College brought me academically and personally. The College continues to be a beacon locally and nationally of best educational practice, shown not only by exam results but also the destinations and successes of our students.

Since returning to the campus, I’ve seen the fantastic facilities that have developed over the years, and I’ve felt the energy among staff and students. I’ve also enjoyed working with a talented team of governors. We’re all aware of the responsibility we hold for respecting and enhancing the College’s reputation as a place where all our young people can reach their full potential.”

Although Richard’s hard work, leadership and dedication will be greatly missed, the entire Greenhead community is delighted to welcome James as our new Chair of Governors. We look forward to working with him as we continue to support our students in achieving their ambitions and reaching their full potential.
