Greenhead students plant trees in Greenhead Park

On Wednesday 16th March, a group of Greenhead College students headed across the road to Greenhead Park to plant 9 trees.

After securing a grant of £1173 from the Tree Council’s branching out fund, the project, led by Geography teacher Adele Costello, aims to give back something positive to our local community, as well as to mark the Queen’s Jubilee.

In attendance was the Mayor of Huddersfield, as well as a HM Deputy Lieutenant who helped plant the first tree.

Ben Martin, our lead student Environment Officer said “In addition to this project, I have been working very closely with Cummins Turbo Technologies to improve the college’s waste management scheme. As well as this I run a ‘Just One Thing’ campaign via twitter to encourage students to become more environmentally focussed”.

After College, Ben will be taking up a Chartered Management Degree Apprenticeship with Nestle.
