Year 11 Students Inspired by a Real World of Economics

Last Friday 8th February, Greenhead College Economics students played host to Year 11 students from 8 local schools; Salendine Nook Academy, Whitcliffe Mount, Holmfirth High, Honley High, Horizon Community College, Saddleworth School, Moor End Academy and King James School, to deliver a friendly economics based competition.

Following various presentations from our A Level students on different economics based topics, the schools were set various tasks and challenges to complete within their teams and were scored accordingly.

Congratulations to Holmfirth High School who won the event for the second year in a row. We look forward to seeing if you can make it a hat-trick next year!

The event was real success and a fantastic opportunity for Year 11 students to dip into into the world of economics, a subject that is new to many of them but something they may be interested in pursuing.

It also provided the opportunity for our A Level students to boost many skills including enterprise, presenting, and creativity, all vital when they enter the world of work.

A huge well done and thank you to our amazing team of students who spent time organising the event from planning and delivering the tasks so confidently, to putting together the fantastic goody bags for the participating students, which included sponsored prizes from The Economist, and everything else in-between. It really was a fantastic day.
