Bank of England Visit Inspires A1 Economics Students
09 June 2026A1 Economics students recently benefited from an engaging and informative talk delivered by Greenhead College alumnus and College Governor, Usman, who now works at the Bank of England.
Having studied Economics and Business at Greenhead, Usman’s return provided students with an excellent opportunity to see how their studies can translate into exciting and impactful careers.
During the session, he spoke about his own journey, as well as offering valuable insight into the role of the Bank of England and its importance in shaping the UK economy.
The talk prompted strong engagement from students, with many keen to ask thoughtful questions and explore the topics discussed in greater depth.
A1 Economics student Max said:
“The Bank of England talk was a really valuable experience that allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of their influence on macroeconomic policy and how they make decisions using real life data.”
Building on this, Max highlighted how the session went beyond the A Level specification, introducing students to wider aspects of economics and the global financial system, as well as raising awareness of future career pathways.
He added:
“Usman also mentioned some topics we don’t get to study such as the storing of different countries’ gold and the creation of stablecoins, which I found very interesting. It was a great opportunity as it provided information on the multiple pathways available after College, from internships to degree apprenticeship programmes.”
We would like to thank Usman for taking the time to return to Greenhead and share his experiences with our students.
