A2 student Sophie awarded Degree Apprenticeship with Morrisons

Congratulations to A2 student Sophie Edwards who has been offered a place on a highly competitive Corporate Degree Apprenticeship Scheme with Morrisons. Sophie has also been awarded the Dr H G Grason Scholarship by the Mirfield Educational Charity. The awarding body were so impressed with her academic ambition and dedication, particularly her volunteering and promotion of sport in local schools.

Sophie will be working at their Bradford Head Office where she will gain a wide knowledge of the business working in various departments including marketing, wholesale and property, as well as gaining a full degree in Business Management at the University of Bradford.

The application process was no mean feat. Firstly, she took part in an online assessment day consisting of group exercises, a solo presentation and a 1-1 interview. During this time, Sophie had a set amount of time to analyse a series of data and feedback her ideas, which tested her teamworking skills and to ensure her pattern of thinking aligned with the company. Once Sophie passed the assessment day, she had her final interview which involved delivering a presentation all about herself and her motivations to join the scheme. She presented this at the Morrison’s Head Office to a number of assessors.

Sophie commented on her success:

“In order to prepare for the entire application process I made sure that I researched lots of information on the company and used every single bit of help I could at college from my form tutor Diane, the Careers Department and my PE teachers (Sue, Mary and Adele) and they all supported me so much throughout the entire process.

The whole application process was difficult, however, knowing I have been successful I am so excited that I can now combine a full-time degree alongside starting my career at 18 years old.”

Diane Beaven, Sophie’s Personal Tutor said:

“Sophie is a truly remarkable young woman. Energetic, dedicated and kind, she is a fantastic role model. Perhaps most impressive is her phenomenal attention to detail and constant drive to improve. Her preparation for every stage of her degree apprenticeship application was astonishing. Unwavering in her modesty, Sophie refuses to acknowledge just how fantastic she is in every respect. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her over the last two years.”

Well done Sophie on your incredible achievement!
