Options@18 Fair 2019 the biggest and best yet!

A Careers Fair at Greenhead College saw over 70 employers, universities and gap year organisations attend; students were able to find out about their next step by speaking directly to those providing the opportunities. Companies in attendance included Nestle, Sainsbury’s, Syngenta and Yorkshire Building Society; universities included Bristol, Royal Veterinary School, Durham and St. Andrew’s and gap year organisations included STA Travel, VSO and Project Trust.

The college welcomed unprecedented numbers of students and their parents/carers – a footfall of 1,500 gleaned information and advice and some secured apprenticeship interviews.

It was pleasing to see a large number of alumni in charge of the stalls, encouraging current students to follow in their footsteps. One such was Olivia Grogan who decided to combine university and an apprenticeship and is now taking a degree apprenticeship with IBM while studying at Exeter University. She tells us,

“I would most definitely recommend this route to people. My IBM Degree Apprenticeship is allowing me to not only gain a degree without student debt but I am also gaining 4 years of invaluable experience at a very reputable company – whilst earning money. The opportunities I have at IBM are endless.”

Careers Leader Rowena Burton said,

“Although 85% of our students opt for the traditional university route, increasing numbers are considering a Higher Apprenticeship or a Degree Apprenticeship; this is why we only invite employers that offer apprenticeships where students need A Levels to apply.”

Congratulations to everyone involved in organising this popular and informative event!
