Greenhead College awarded National Quality in Careers Standard

Greenhead College is delighted to be awarded the prestigious Quality in Careers Standard for its outstanding careers provision, which was presented to the College by Martin Green, CEO of C&K Careers following its recent assessment. The College is the first in Kirklees & Calderdale to achieve this standard and is one of the first nationally.

The National Quality Standard is the single national quality award for careers, education, information, advice and guidance in schools and colleges, which is aligned with the Gatsby Benchmark Framework. Upon recent and rigorous assessment, Greenhead College was deemed ‘outstanding’ in all areas meaning all students at the College have access to an outstanding careers provision tailored to their own individual requirements.

Commenting on the award, Martin Green, CEO of C&K Careers said:

“I am delighted to present Greenhead College with the Quality in Careers Standard. The standard demonstrates that the students attending Greenhead College are provided with an outstanding offer of careers related learning and experiences. The College has been rigorously assessed independently by C and K Careers and has been found to be fully compliant with all aspects of the standard including the Gatsby benchmarks.”

The College’s careers provision includes, but is not limited to; 1:1 tailored careers advice and guidance, substantial employer engagement including regular speakers from a range of organisations, the College’s large scale project and work shadowing scheme in which over 1200 students take part each year and the College’s annual Options @18 Fair, in which over 70 employers, universities and gap year organisations attend.

Principal of Greenhead College, Simon Lett said:

“This award recognises that Greenhead College students have access to an excellent careers programme that is tailored to their individual needs. Our students have a huge range of opportunities to learn from employers and develop their employability skills through first-hand experience of the workplace.”

A visit from France!

Our A Level French students recently welcomed a group of French students into College during their school visit to England.

The students, from the Lycée Gustave Courbet in Belfort, France, spent just one day here at Greenhead College gaining insight to a day in the life of an English College student.

Throughout the day, they accompanied our students to their different lessons and took part in various tasks including a ‘Dragons Den’ style pitch. Students from both Colleges were put into mixed groups of French and English students, where they had to work together to learn about the two towns the students were from and present their findings to a judging panel, which consisted of teachers from each college.  Greenhead College students presented in French and the students from Lycée Gustave Courbet presented in English, with the best presentation being chosen as the winner.

Everyone had a brilliant day, and it was a fantastic learning experience for both sets of students!
