Greenhead College shortlisted for FE College Achievement Award

Greenhead College have been shortlisted for the FE College Achievement Award with their recent Carol for Yorkshire Project. The National Awards are run by the Creative Learning Guild, and the winner will be announced on Friday 8th March 2019.

Carol for Yorkshire was a recent project run by Greenhead Colleges Music Department in partnership with Musica Kirklees, where students from across the district were invited to enter a competition to compose their very own Christmas Carol.

Greenhead College student Louis Enright won the competition with his fantastic composition of ‘What Would Jesus Say’, which was recorded by the Greenhead College Choir and 3 local primary schools; Mount Pleasant Primary, Spring Grove Primary and Reinwood Junior School.

The carol was released on Monday 3rd December 2018 to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

It was a huge success as the YouTube video was viewed over 6000 times, it was played on various local radio stations including Pulse 2 and BBC Radio Leeds and was downloaded hundreds of times across Amazon Music, ITunes and Spotify. It even reached number 4 in Amazon’s hot new releases chart! But most importantly, the project raised £706.80 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Congratulations to everybody involved for all the hard work and effort you put into this project, particularly Louis Enright for his fantastic composition and the Greenhead College Music Department for bringing it to life. Fingers crossed for the win!

There are celebrations all round as 45 Greenhead College students have secured offers to study a range of disciplines at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Disciplines include but are not limited to: Medicine, History, Music, Languages, Computer Science, Philosophy, Law and Architecture.

This is a record number for Greenhead College, who consistently send more students to these Universities than any school or College in the entire Yorkshire and the Humber region.

The College is a highly sought after Sixth Form College, with students travelling to Huddersfield from as far as Bradford, Halifax, Wakefield, Barnsley, Leeds and Oldham to receive the first class education and support the college offers.

Its continued Oxbridge success comes from a comprehensive support programme which includes masterclasses, interview workshops, presentations by admissions tutors, residential visits, practice admissions tests and most of all, extremely hard working, dedicated students!

"When I was choosing my college in year 11, I could see that the amount of guidance and help offered at Greenhead to all students was unmatched. Now having gone through that process myself I can honestly say that it has been exemplary. Visits to universities, the HE+ extension programme, mini subject prep groups and continuous contact with admissions tutors and experienced teachers has placed me in the best position to apply to top universities."

Principal of the College, Simon Lett commented:

"We are absolutely thrilled to see so many of our students obtain offers from Oxford and Cambridge Universities – this is our highest number ever. These young people have worked incredibly hard and have been fully supported by our staff in college who work tirelessly to raise students’ aspirations."
