Show Racism the Red Card

On Friday 18 October, Greenhead College turned red, in solidarity against racism.

Students and staff came into College wearing red clothing and accessories to show their support whilst purchasing official badges to raise money for the Show Racism the Red Card charity.

This event runs alongside Greenhead College’s Black History Month celebrations where there will be a student showcase of dancing, singing, poetry and more on Monday 21 October.

Greenhead College achieves Accreditation for its support for Young Carers

We are proud to announce that Greenhead College has received the Quality Standard in Carer Support (QSCS) Accreditation for its work supporting young carers.

A Young Carer is anybody who is under the age of 18 and has regular caring responsibilities at home. This can include assisting with personal care, housekeeping, administering medication, emotional support and financial management, to name a few.

The assessor concluded that Greenhead College had evidenced a strong ethos towards supporting marginalised students including young carers, offering a range of targeted programmes to build self-confidence and raise aspirations.

Undertaking the accreditation has increased the disclosures of students identifying as young carers and enabled us to revisit our support processes ensuring they recognise the individual circumstances of caring responsibilities. Teresa, the College’s Young Carer Coordinator runs a weekly support group for any student with caring responsibilities.

Claire Parr, Assistant Principal of Student Support and Welfare (SEND & Inclusion) commented:

I am so pleased that the work our Young Carer Coordinator and staff across the college has been recognised by the Carers Federation and highlights our commitment to supporting the challenges that Young Carers often face in education.
