Department for Education School and College Performance Tables published in January 2018 include data showing ‘value added’, which indicates student progress made since GCSE, as well as high grades achieved by students in key academic subjects.
In both categories, local schools and colleges achieved some outstanding results, reflecting the very high standard of post-16 provision in the region.
Greenhead College is the top performing designated Sixth Form College in Yorkshire and the Humber for A Level student progress and performance in facilitating A Levels often required for entry to the leading universities. 224 students achieved AAB grades in these subjects last year.
College Principal, Simon Lett, said:
“These latest government performance tables show that students at Greenhead make exceptional progress in their A Levels and achieve very high grades, opening the door to top universities, advanced modern apprenticeships and employment.”

Outstanding turnout to Options @ 18 FairFebruary 8th 2018 saw our Options @ 18 Fair take place in College – and what a turnout! The event was host to over 70 exhibitors representing various organisations, local and national, who provided the students with information about their courses, schemes and opportunities available. The options fair is something that College has held for several years now, however, this years was unique in the fact that Universities attended for the first time, alongside employers, gap year organisations and apprenticeships who attend year on year. Having Universities attending made the event the biggest and best to date. It is estimated approximately 1000 people attended during the two hours, which is phenomenal! There was a real buzz around the room and it was fabulous to see so much enthusiasm from both students and parents. The students were highly commended by the exhibitors for showing so much interest and asking such intelligent questions. Rowena Burton from the careers department, and organiser of the event commented:
Feedback, from a handful of the organisations who attended, said:
It was an extremely successful event, enjoyed by all. Greenhead’s Grace Goswami a winner at the British Education Awards
Former Greenhead College student Grace Goswami was a winner at the British Education Awards 2018, in recognition of her outstanding academic results and other achievements.Grace had been shortlisted in the 'A Level – England zone 1' category and was announced the winner at a prestigious awards ceremony and dinner at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester on 31 January 2018. Grace was nominated for this award by Principal of the College, Simon Lett, after her outstanding success of three A* grades in her Psychology, History and Geography A-Levels. On top of these excellent results, Grace received the highest mark of the college in all three subject areas, including full marks in her History A-Level – an incredible achievement. Grace’s dedication to Greenhead College was also a factor in her nomination. In addition to her studies, Grace committed four hours of her time each week to mentor four students in Psychology, as well as regularly helping out at open days. She often provided her teachers with her own learning resources, which she would use to aid her studies and help other students. An all-round enthusiastic and hard-working student, Grace is a well-deserved winner of this award. Simon Lett, Principal at Greenhead College, commented:
