Step Into Your Future Week: Insights into Business, Economics and Finance

What an action-packed week A1 Greenhead College students on the Business, Economics and Finance Programme had during this year’s Step Into Your Future Week.

For those joining the Business, Economics and Finance programme, students experienced lectures in Marketing, Economics and Management, all based in the facilities at the University of Huddersfield Business School. Students also enjoyed talks from alumni such as Callum from BlackRock, who always attracts a sea of students staying behind after his talk to ask questions.

Local organisations Huddersfield BID and pharmaceutical company TEVA ran workshops with students, and it was great to see so many new ideas emerging from their presentations. KPMG ran a day-long assessment centre experience, featuring group tasks, an in-tray exercise and accountancy activities.

Day four saw a range of talks on topics such as interview skills, degree apprenticeships and an inspirational presentation from the former CEO of Barclays Bank. To finish the week, there was a bustling Careers Fair with stalls from both employers and universities.

As a real bonus, we were delighted to see A1 student Josh take up an offer of paid work with Huddersfield BID at their Get Your Geek On event, which has since led to even more paid work opportunities.

Greenhead College Turing Scheme Trip to Misano, Italy

A1 students at Greenhead College with ambitions in sports coaching have recently returned from an exciting Turing Scheme trip to Misano, Italy.

As part of Step Into Your Future Week, the trip provided valuable insight into the world of sports coaching. During their time abroad, students took part in a variety of coaching activities and educational visits across the Misano region, including a memorable trip to the historic microstate of San Marino.

Participants had the opportunity to coach local junior sports teams, develop their communication skills by learning Italian, and fully immerse themselves in the local culture.

In preparation for the trip, students were encouraged to consider their environmental impact. Each student committed to making two ‘carbon promises’ to help reduce their carbon footprint and offset some of the emissions associated with air travel.

We would also like to congratulate all students who were awarded ‘Coach of the Day’ throughout the trip. A special congratulations goes to Florence, who was named ‘Coach of the Trip’ in recognition of her outstanding enthusiasm, passion, patience, and dedication.

Step Into Your Future Week 2026

Greenhead College enjoyed another highly successful Step Into Your Future Week, a dedicated programme designed to enhance students’ employability skills and support them in working towards their future aspirations.

Step Into Your Future Week has been truly inspiring, with students taking part in a wide range of workshops, talks, visits, real-world experiences, and our Careers Fair. These opportunities have enabled them to explore a variety of pathways, including careers, apprenticeships and university options.

Throughout the week, our students have embraced every opportunity to broaden their horizons and gain valuable insight into their future possibilities. This article captures just a small snapshot of the fantastic activities they have been involved in.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who contributed to making the week such a success. We are especially grateful to our alumni, industry partners, businesses and university representatives who generously shared their time, expertise and experiences.

We would also like to thank our staff for their continued dedication and support in delivering such a rich and impactful programme.

Students Prepare for Turing Scheme Trip to Misano, Italy, with ‘Carbon Promises’

A1 students at Greenhead College with ambitions in sports coaching are eagerly preparing for an exciting international opportunity this summer – the Turing Scheme trip to Misano, Italy, taking place from 13–26 June 2026.

As part of this unique programme, students will take part in a variety of coaching activities and educational visits across the Misano region, including a trip to the historic microstate of San Marino.

As part of Step Into Your Future Week, the programme offers valuable insight into the world of sports coaching.

Participants will have the opportunity to coach local junior sports teams, develop their communication skills by learning Italian, and fully immerse themselves in the local culture. This hands-on experience is ideal for those considering a future career in sports coaching or related fields.

In preparation for the trip, students have also been encouraged to consider their environmental impact. As part of the programme, each student has committed to making two ‘carbon promises’ to help reduce their carbon footprint and address some of the emissions associated with air travel.

These personalised pledges reflect a strong sense of responsibility and include initiatives such as committing to meat‑free days, choosing active travel where possible, and making small everyday changes to support a more sustainable lifestyle.

This forward-thinking approach not only enhances the overall experience but also encourages students to consider their role in creating a more sustainable future.
